When a calm, rational person like you makes arguments like this I get truly scared.

Damn.

So many commentators are watching for shenanigans regarding the midterms. Honestly it is just like waiting for the other shoe to drop. The key is if it does what will normal Americans do then? I think we know if they do display their pioneering spirit how the administration will respond.

We Canadians look south and wonder: is America on the verge of a hot civil war?

You might be right. It was interesting that an American Economist at the time of Mr. Hamilton describes about the economics of US with relation to the was as a final object. They might need it innerly too.Their civil was long time ago, I am not sure of the period of war cycle in US . They might create a hint for the next one.

Some of us down hear are wondering, too.

Yes, this is what I’ve been saying here for months. Trump will either manipulate the midterms to death or suspend them. That’s in large part what the prolongation of the Iran war is about. Just keep on provoking them, chop and change on talks attacks. Then declare a state of national emergency and cancel the elections. Then…and then, impose martial law? We already have ICE controlling the streets in several cities, and the National Guard at the ready. After all, that’s in the playbook of authoritarians and aspirant dictators, especially if they have a pathological personality like Trump. But the real ideologues and democracy destroyers, those who are actually capable of taking these steps, are J. D. Vance, Hegseth and Miller, backed by the whole “dark enlightenment” movement. They are the real threat. They’ll mount a coup once Trump becomes too obviously decrepit. There could be civil war. If I’m wrong about any of this, it’s safer to keep watch anyway. Democratic Americans, your historic experiment in republican democracy is on the brink of failure.

I think you’re absolutely right. Trump is rolling the pitch to claim that the mid terms are invalid.

I doubt if America will divide enough for civil war but Trump may well declare Marshall Law and suspend the Midterms and continue his mad rule. Those of us who wish we had a written constitution will look on in horror. What annoys me most is the lack of shame by those who gave him a majority in all the swing states. The people in Britain who voted Labour while holding their noses in July 2024 soon made it obvious to Starmer that they disapproved of his actions. Where are the equivalent people in America?

I think you have nailed Trump’s plans. If elections are cancelled people will storm the whitehouse pitch forks in hand

There is no red line Trump will not cross to sustain his ego and power lust. As ever it is up to ordinary decent Americans to step up and defend their country from tyrants. It’s now or never come the midterms.

You've hit the nail on the head. Let's see how "freedom loving" Americans respond. I'm rather pessimistic on this front. I increasingly see the US as the Home of the Unfree, Land of the Indentured.

Of course it's a red alert. Donald has already lost one election--which, as a narcissist, he cannot and will not accept: as who can possibly love or respect a loser?

Or maybe he is anyway unable to believe he lost the 2020 election. Because, being such a liar and cheater himself, and a narcissist who can only project his own motivations and feelings onto others, then for him to "lose" can only mean everyone else must be lying and cheating even worse (or better) than himself.

And as a narcissist cannot, under any circumstances, accept being a loser.

So there's no way he lost the 2020 election.

And so there's no way he's going to risk losing power to Democrats in Congress in the 2028 mid-terms, to spend two years as a lame duck President. Or what's the point of being President? Presidency means nothing without POWER.

So naturally this might require cancelling the mid-terms: if, finally, all his attempts at voter suppression, and voter intimidation via ICE patrols illegally parked outside polling stations, still look to be not enough...

But a number of US news networks are fully aware of all this: some of them refused to broadcast Trump's speech live, made available only for streaming; others the reverse. Trump has threatened to have their licences revoked, of course.
